The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has officially released the CAPF Assistant Commandant (AC) Recruitment 2026 Notification for 349 Group A vacancies. Candidates aspiring to serve in India’s Central Armed Police Forces can apply online from 20 February 2026 to 12 March 2026 (6:00 PM) through the official website.
The written examination for UPSC CAPF AC 2026 will be conducted on 19 July 2026.

Note: Vacancies are tentative and may change. 10% of the total posts are reserved for Ex-servicemen as per government norms.
Eligibility Criteria
Nationality
- Must be a citizen of India
- Subjects of Nepal or Bhutan may apply with prior approval from the Central Government
Educational Qualification
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree from:
- A recognized university incorporated by Central/State Act
- An institution established by Parliament
- A Deemed University under the UGC Act, 1956
- Or equivalent qualification
Final-year students appearing in 2026 may also apply, but they must submit proof of qualification within the prescribed timeline.
Important: Distance learning or part-time degrees are not accepted.
Age Limit (As on 01 August 2026)
- Minimum Age: 20 Years
- Maximum Age: 25 Years
Age Relaxation:
- SC/ST – 5 Years
- OBC – 3 Years
- Civilian Central Govt. Servants/Ex-Servicemen – Up to 5 Years
- Combined relaxation applicable as per rules

Salary & Pay Scale
Selected candidates will be appointed as Group A Officers in the Central Armed Police Forces. Salary, allowances, and other benefits will be provided as per Government of India rules applicable to Assistant Commandants.
Final allocation to the respective force will depend on merit rank and candidate preference.
Selection Process – UPSC CAPF AC 2026
The selection process includes four stages:
Stage 1: Written Examination (19 July 2026)
Paper I – General Ability & Intelligence

Paper II – General Studies, Essay & Comprehension

- Descriptive Type
- Duration: 3 Hours
Part A – Essay (80 Marks)
Part B – Comprehension, Precis Writing & English Skills (120 Marks – English only)
Paper II will be evaluated only if the candidate qualifies Paper I.
Stage 2: Physical Standards Test (PST) / Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
Physical Standards
For Men:
- Height: 165 cm
- Chest: 81 cm (5 cm expansion)
- Weight: 50 kg
For Women:
- Height: 157 cm
- Weight: 46 kg
Physical Efficiency Tests
Men:
- 100m Race – 16 sec
- 800m Race – 3 min 45 sec
- Long Jump – 3.5 m
- Shot Put – 4.5 m
Women:
- 100m Race – 18 sec
- 800m Race – 4 min 45 sec
- Long Jump – 3.0 m
Stage 3: Interview / Personality Test
- 150 Marks
- Conducted by UPSC
- NCC ‘B’ or ‘C’ certificate holders may receive consideration
Stage 4: Medical Standards Test (MST)
Candidates must meet detailed medical requirements including:
- Vision Standards (6/6 or 6/9 corrected)
- Colour Perception (CP-III)
- Overall physical fitness
Candidates declared unfit may appear before a Review Medical Board.
Final Merit List
Final selection will be based on:
- Written Examination Marks
- Interview Marks
Tie-breaking criteria include higher written marks, higher Paper-I marks, and age seniority.
