The UGC NET exam is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) twice a year to determine the eligibility of candidates for Assistant Professorship or Junior Research Fellowship in Indian universities and colleges. Understanding the exam pattern and syllabus is crucial to prepare effectively for this competitive examination.

The UGC NET exam consists of two papers – Paper I and Paper II. Paper I is common for all subjects, whereas Paper II focuses on subject-specific topics. Both papers are conducted in online mode.

Paper I consists of 50 multiple-choice questions, each carrying two marks. The duration of this paper is one hour. It covers various topics like teaching aptitude, research aptitude, reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking, general awareness, etc.

Paper II consists of 100 multiple-choice questions based on the subject chosen by the candidate. Each question carries two marks as well. The duration for this paper is also one hour.

Candidates must note that there is no negative marking in the UGC NET exam; therefore, they should attempt all questions with confidence.

To prepare effectively for UGC NET December 2023, it’s important to go through the detailed syllabus provided on NTA’s official website. The syllabus includes subject-specific topics that candidates need to cover thoroughly before appearing for the examination.

Regular practice using previous years’ question papers and mock tests will help candidates become familiar with the exam pattern and improve their time management skills.
