Survey of India, Dehradun, the apex mapping and surveying organization of the country under the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, invites applications from qualified and experienced Indian citizens for engagement as Legal Consultants. These positions are to be filled on a purely contractual basis, aimed at strengthening the organization’s legal support structure in dealing with service matters, legal affairs, and litigation management.
The engagement is not permanent and does not confer any right for regularization or absorption in Survey of India. Selected candidates will be responsible for providing legal advice and services in matters relating to court cases, arbitration, contracts, disciplinary issues, financial rules, and civil service regulations.

Vacancy Details:
A total of 900 positions are available for Legal Consultants:
- Position (a): 600 Full-Time Legal Consultants to be posted at the Surveyor General’s Office, Survey of India, Hathibarkala Estate, Dehradun, Uttarakhand.
- Position (b): 300 Legal Consultant on Retainer Basis, to be posted at the Director, International Boundary Directorate & DSA, Survey of India, Pushpa Bhawan, New Delhi.
Eligibility Criteria:
Educational Qualification:
- A minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB) or equivalent from a recognized University/Institute approved by the Bar Council of India.
Experience:
- Must have 5 to 10 years of post-qualification experience as a practicing lawyer or legal consultant.
- Experience may be in:
- Law firms
- Ministries/Departments of the Government
- Registered organizations or PSUs
- Candidates should have handled:
- Civil service matters
- Disciplinary rules
- Financial rules
- Contractual and arbitration cases
- Legal representations in CATs, Tribunals, High Courts, and the Supreme Court of India.
- Must be registered as an Advocate under the Bar Council of India as per the Advocate Act, 1961.
Domain-Specific Knowledge:
Applicants should demonstrate a sound understanding of:
- Central Civil Services (CCS) and CCA Rules
- Disciplinary Rules
- General Financial Rules
- Indian Contract Act
- Arbitration Laws
- Drafting contracts and legal notices
Desirable Qualifications:
- Postgraduate Degree in Law (LLM) or
- Additional Diploma/Certificate in Civil Service Rules
- Candidates with proficiency in service laws, good communication, and strong legal drafting skills will be preferred.
Age Limit:
- Candidates should be aged between 30 and 40 years at the time of submitting their application.
Salary and Remuneration:
For Full-Time Consultants (Dehradun):
- A consolidated remuneration of up to ₹75,000/- per month (negotiable depending on qualifications and experience).
- Entitled for TA/DA equivalent to Level-11, Group A officer when required to travel for official legal matters outside station, as per approval of competent authority.
For Retainer Consultant (New Delhi):
- A consolidated salary of up to ₹50,000/- per month will be offered (negotiable).
- Additional compensation will be provided in accordance with the Ministry of Law & Justice norms.
- TA/DA reimbursement for approved travel equivalent to Level-10, Group A officer.
Selection Process:
- Screening of Applications:
- All submitted applications will be reviewed to ensure they meet the eligibility requirements.
- Candidates will be shortlisted for the next stage based on their qualifications and overall profile.
- Interview/Interaction:
- Shortlisted candidates will be called for an interaction/interview.
- The date, time, and venue for the interaction/interview will be communicated separately to the shortlisted candidates.
- Document Verification:
- Verification of all original documents and certificates will be conducted at the time of the interview.
- Applicants who are unable to present the necessary original documents will be disqualified from appearing for the interview.
- Final Selection:
- Final selection will depend on the candidate’s performance in the interview and their pertinent work experience.
- The decision made by the Survey of India shall be considered final and conclusive.
