The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar has announced several vacancies for 2025 under prestigious sponsored research projects.Motivated individuals with a keen interest in environmental science, project leadership, or oceanography have an exciting opportunity to be part of groundbreaking initiatives backed by renowned sponsors like Mahanadi Coalfields Limited and the Integrated Coastal Zone Management Society of Odisha. IIT Bhubaneswar is inviting applications for the posts of Senior Research Fellow, Project Co-Ordinator, and Project Scientist under a range of projects being carried out in the School of Infrastructure and the School of Earth, Ocean, and Climate Sciences.

Eligibility Criteria

1. Senior Research Fellow (School of Infrastructure)

  • Qualification: M.Tech in Environmental Engineering.
  • Relevant Experience: Expertise in source apportionment study and risk assessment.
  • Age Limit: 28 years.
  • Compensation: Up to Rs. 28,000 (based on qualification and experience).

2. Senior Research Fellow (School of Earth, Ocean and Climate Sciences)

  • Qualification: First-class Postgraduate degree in Marine Science, Aquatic Sciences, Natural Science, Geology, or Applied Sciences.
  • Relevant Experience:
    • 1-2 years of work experience in coastal, marine, or freshwater ecosystems.
    • Experience in Remote Sensing, GIS, water and sediment analysis.
    • Field sampling and data collection.
    • Strong report writing skills.
    • Fluency in Odiya or Hindi (speaking) is advantageous.
  • Age Limit: 32 years.
  • Compensation: Up to Rs. 42,000 + HRA @ 18% per month.

3. Project Co-Ordinator

  • Qualification: First-class Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Science or Commerce.
  • Relevant Experience:
    • 2-3 years of project management experience in government or private organizations.
    • Coordination between funders and institutes.
    • Financial transactions management (cash book, receipts, payments, expenditures, vendor invoices).
    • Bank reconciliation and project financial report preparation.
    • Knowledge of financial accounting software like Tally.
    • Strong organizational, communication, and computer skills.
    • Proficiency in Odiya and Hindi is essential.
  • Age Limit: 45 years.
  • Compensation: Up to Rs. 40,000 + HRA @ 18% per month.

4. Project Scientist

  • Qualification: Ph.D. in Environmental Science, Marine Science, Aquatic Sciences, Marine Biology, or Marine Biogeochemistry.
  • Relevant Experience:
    • 2-3 years of work in marine conservation or natural resource management.
    • Field surveys in coastal ecosystems.
    • Experience with biogeochemical processes, advanced instrumentation, and data analysis.
    • At least 2-3 publications in peer-reviewed journals on coastal ecosystems.
    • Computer proficiency (R, Python).
    • SCUBA diving certification (Open Water license) or willingness to learn.
    • Indian car driving license.
    • Advantage: Prior work on Odisha’s coast and proficiency in Odiya or Hindi.
  • Age Limit: 35 years.
  • Compensation: Up to Rs. 67,000 + HRA @ 18% per month.

Pay Scale

The total compensation is determined by the candidate’s qualifications and relevant experience, with variations across different positions:

  • Senior Research Fellow (Environmental Engineering): Compensation of up to Rs. 28,000.
  • Senior Research Fellow (Marine Sciences): Up to Rs. 42,000 + HRA @ 18%.
  • Project Co-Ordinator: Up to Rs. 40,000 + HRA @ 18%.
  • Project Scientist: Up to Rs. 67,000 + HRA @ 18%.

Selection Process

Shortlisting of candidates will be based on their academic credentials and relevant experience. Shortlisted candidates may be called for an interview (physical or online) by the concerned project principal investigators.

Final selection will be based on:

  • Relevant academic records.
  • Research/project experience.
  • Interview performance.
