Science City, Kolkata is a National Level Unit under the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), which functions under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. It is one of India’s largest and most visited science centres, known for promoting scientific learning and innovation through interactive exhibits, educational programs, and research-based projects.

In order to support ongoing and upcoming civil infrastructure initiatives, Science City, Kolkata is inviting applications from eligible and experienced retired civil engineers for the position of Consultant (Civil) on a contractual basis. This position is crucial for overseeing civil engineering works, ensuring safety and compliance, and implementing infrastructure best practices across the campus.

Vacancy Details

This is a single post. The selection will be made purely on merit and suitability as assessed by the competent authority. The authority reserves the right to accept or reject applications or cancel the recruitment process entirely without assigning any reason.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification:

• Candidates must hold a Diploma in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution.

Work Experience:

• Applicants must be retired civil engineers who held positions in the Pay Matrix Level-11 or Level-12 as per the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC) or equivalent rank.

Employment Background:

• The candidate must have retired from:
  • Central Government
  • State Government
  • Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs)
  • Autonomous Bodies

Age Limit:

• The applicant should not be more than 63 years of age as on the closing date of the application (08.05.2025).

Salary and Remuneration

• The consolidated monthly remuneration will be fixed as per the Government of India’s guidelines applicable for such contractual engagements.
• The specific amount will be determined based on the candidate’s last drawn pay and post-retirement pay level.

Other Financial Conditions:

• No House Rent Allowance (HRA) or accommodation will be provided.
• No additional allowances such as medical, conveyance, or dearness will be admissible.
• Applicable taxes (such as Income Tax) will be deducted at source as per prevailing rules.
• A certificate acknowledging the deduction of tax at source (TDS) will be provided.

Selection Process

• The selection will be made by a duly constituted committee and will be based on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, and suitability for the role.
• The Competent Authority reserves full discretion to:
  • Select one applicant
  • Reject all applications
  • Cancel the recruitment process at any stage
• The decision regarding selection will be final, and no communication or appeal in this matter will be considered.
• Applicants shall not have the right to challenge the decision in any court or forum in India.

Scope of Responsibilities

The selected Consultant (Civil) will undertake the following key tasks:

• Finalization of civil work tenders as per CPWD norms.
• Monitoring and supervising civil construction and maintenance projects.
• Upholding adherence to established civil engineering standards and mandatory safety regulations.
• Overseeing fire safety systems, disaster preparedness protocols, and structural safety of all buildings.
• Assisting in the execution of infrastructure and safety initiatives as outlined by the Government of India.

Contract Duration

• The initial appointment will be for six months.
• The contract may be extended for another six months based on:
  • The ongoing requirement at Science City
  • Performance review
  • Medical fitness of the individual
