The Assam Police has announced a large recruitment drive for the year 2025 to fill Constable posts in both Unarmed Branch (UB) and Armed Branch (AB). Vacancies are distributed among different social categories, women candidates, and special reservation groups as per government rules.

Eligibility Criteria
Nationality and Domicile
- The applicant must be a Citizen of India.
- The applicant must be a Permanent Resident of Assam.
Employment Registration
- The applicant must be registered with a local Employment Exchange in Assam.
Language Requirement
- Candidates must be able to speak Assamese or any other recognized state language fluently.
Age Limit (as on 01 January 2026)
- Minimum Age: 18 years
- Maximum Age: 25 years
- Eligible date of birth range: 01 January 2001 to 01 January 2008
Age Relaxation
- SC / ST (P) / ST (H): 5 years
- OBC / MOBC: 3 years
- Home Guards / VDP / Civil Defence Volunteers with 3 years service: Additional 3 years
- Former Members of Militant Organizations / SPOs: Additional 10 years
Age is calculated strictly based on matriculation or HSLC certificates.
Educational Qualification
- Constable (Unarmed Branch – UB):
- Passed Higher Secondary (Class 12) from a recognized board
- Constable (Armed Branch – AB):
- Passed HSLC / Class 10 from a recognized board
Candidates with Higher Secondary or above qualification may apply for both branches, provided preferences are clearly mentioned.

Height Requirement
Male Candidates
- General / OBC / MOBC / SC: 162.5 cm
- ST (P) / ST (H): 160 cm
Female Candidates
- General / OBC / MOBC / SC: 154 cm
- ST (P) / ST (H): 152 cm
Chest Measurement (Male Only)
- General / OBC / MOBC / SC / ST (P): Minimum 80 cm (with 5 cm expansion)
- ST (H): Minimum 78 cm (with 5 cm expansion)
Medical Standards
Candidates must be in good physical and mental health. They should not suffer from serious diseases such as heart problems, diabetes, respiratory illness, hernia, piles, flat foot, knock-knee, or any deformity that may interfere with police duties.
- Eyesight:
- Distance vision: 6/6 in one eye and 6/9 in the other (without correction)
- Near vision: Normal
- Candidates should not be color blind or squint-eyed.
- Varicose veins are considered a temporary disqualification.
Selection Process
The recruitment process consists of multiple stages designed to assess physical fitness, knowledge, and suitability for police service.
Stage 1: Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
- Includes race, long jump, and chin-ups (for Armed Branch male candidates).
- Marks vary based on performance and category.
Stage 2: Medical Examination
- Conducted to ensure candidates meet prescribed medical standards.
Stage 3: Physical Standard Test (PST)
- Verification of height, chest, and physical measurements.
- This stage carries no marks but is qualifying in nature.
Stage 4: Written Examination
- Objective-type test with 100 questions.
- Subjects include Arithmetic, English, Reasoning, Assam History & Geography, and General Knowledge.
- Total Marks: 50
- No negative marking.
Stage 5: Oral / Viva-Voce
- Maximum Marks: 5
- Assesses personality, communication, and suitability.
Stage 6: Academic Weightage
- Up to 5 marks awarded based on Higher Secondary percentage (for UB posts).
Final Merit List
Final selection is based on combined marks from PET, Written Test, Viva-Voce, and Academic performance.
In case of a tie:
- Older candidate is ranked higher
- If age is same, candidate with greater height is ranked higher
Salary Scale
Selected candidates will receive salary under the following pay structure:
- Pay Scale: ₹14,000 – ₹70,000 per month
- Grade Pay: ₹5,600
- Additional Allowances: As per Assam Government rules
This includes DA, HRA, medical benefits, leave benefits, and pension as applicable.
Training and Service Conditions
- Selected candidates must undergo basic police training.
- Candidates are required to serve a minimum of 3 years after appointment.
- Posting can be anywhere within Assam, regardless of home district.
Failure to complete training or unsatisfactory performance may result in discharge.
