J&K Police Constable Recruitment 2026 Notification for 487 Armed, IRP & SDRF Posts

The Jammu & Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) has announced a major recruitment drive for the post of Constable (Armed/IRP and SDRF) in the Home Department of Jammu & Kashmir. This recruitment aims to fill 487 vacancies under the Union Territory Cadre through a direct recruitment process. The notification has been issued based on the official requisition received from the Home Department, Government of Jammu & Kashmir.

Vacancy Details

Eligibility Criteria

Domicile Requirement

Educational Qualification

    • Maximum Age: 28 years
  • In-Service Police Personnel:
    • Maximum Age: 30 years
  • SPOs and Volunteer Home Guards:
    • Maximum Age: 40 years
  • Ex-Servicemen:
    • Eligible for age relaxation after deducting the period of military service from actual age, subject to prescribed limits

Candidates must not be born after 01 January 2007. Age relaxation will be applicable strictly as per government rules.

Salary Scale

Candidates selected for the post of Constable (Armed/IRP/SDRF) will receive a salary as per the applicable government norms. The monthly salary range for these posts is approximately:

  • ₹35,900 to ₹1,13,500 per month

In addition to the basic salary, selected candidates will be entitled to allowances and benefits as admissible under the rules of the Government of Jammu & Kashmir.

Selection Process

The selection process for J&K Police Constable Recruitment 2026 consists of multiple stages. Candidates must qualify each stage to proceed further.

1. Written Examination

The written test will be objective in nature and will consist of multiple-choice questions. Key features of the written examination include:

  • Questions will be in English language only
  • Negative marking of one-fourth mark for each incorrect answer
  • Bonus marks for NCC certificate holders:
    • NCC ‘C’ Certificate: 5% bonus
    • NCC ‘B’ Certificate: 3% bonus
    • NCC ‘A’ Certificate: 2% bonus

2. Physical Standard Test (PST)

Candidates shortlisted from the written examination (six times the number of vacancies category-wise) will undergo the Physical Standard Test.

Physical Standards:

For Male Candidates:

  • Height: 5 feet 6 inches
  • Chest (Unexpanded): 32 inches
  • Chest (Expanded): 33.5 inches

For Female Candidates:

  • Height: 5 feet 2 inches

Height relaxation of 2 inches is applicable for candidates belonging to Gorkha Community and Bot Tribe.

3. Physical Endurance Test (PET)

Candidates qualifying PST will appear for PET, which is qualifying in nature.

For Male Candidates:

  • 1600 meters race in 6.5 minutes
  • 20 push-ups

For Female Candidates:

  • 1000 meters race in 6.5 minutes
  • Shot put (4 kg): 14.5 feet in three attempts

Relaxed standards are applicable for Ex-Servicemen based on age categories.

4. Medical Examination

Candidates finally shortlisted will undergo a medical examination to assess their physical and medical fitness. Only medically fit candidates will be recommended for appointment.
