The Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL), a premier laboratory under the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Ministry of Defence, Government of India, has released a notification inviting applications from veteran retired officials are being sought for engagement as Consultants on a short-term contract, leveraging their wealth of experience to support specialized assignments. This outreach campaign brings within its purview retired officials of Central/State Government departments, PSUs, and Autonomous Institutions—who possess considerable technical or administrative expertise—to give their mature thoughts actively to priority defence research and innovation initiatives.

Based in Hyderabad, the Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL) stands at the forefront of advanced materials science and engineering, directly supporting India’s defence capabilities.The current recruitment is intended to engage retired personnel with relevant background knowledge and experience at specific pay levels as per the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC) guidelines.

All positions are based at Hyderabad and are initially offered for a period of one year, which may be extended based on performance and organizational requirements.

Eligibility Criteria

A. Educational & Experience Requirements

  • Applicants must be retired officials from Central/State Government Departments, Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), Autonomous Bodies, Universities, or Government R&D Organizations.
  • Candidates must possess practical knowledge and experience in the relevant field of the post as outlined in the respective Terms of Reference (TOR).

B. Experience with DRDO

  • Preference will be given to individuals who have prior experience working with DRDO.

C. Skills Required

  • Effective communication skills in both oral and written form.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and capacity for in-depth analysis of tasks related to the position.

D. Service Record

  • Candidates must have maintained an unblemished service record during their government service tenure.

E. Pay Level Requirement

  • Only officials who retired in the specific Pay Levels (7 to 11) as mentioned in the post codes are eligible to apply.

F. Age Limit

  • The maximum age limit for applying is 63 years as on the closing date of application submission.

Pay Scale / Remuneration

The remuneration is fixed based on the pay level at the time of retirement and the type of pension plan the applicant was under.

For Pensioners (with basic pension):

  • Fixed monthly remuneration = Last Pay Drawn – Basic Pension
  • Additional Conveyance Allowance: ₹3,000/- per month

For Retired Officials under NPS (National Pension Scheme):

  • 30% of last basic pay is deducted to arrive at the fixed monthly remuneration.
  • Additional Conveyance Allowance: ₹3,000/- per month

For Non-Pensioners:

Selection Process

The selection will be conducted by a Screening/Selection Committee appointed by DRDO/DMRL. The process will include:

  1. Scrutiny of Applications – Based on eligibility, qualifications, and relevant experience.
  2. Preference Criteria – Given to candidates with prior DRDO experience and those with specialized knowledge matching the Terms of Reference (TOR).
  3. Final Selection – Subject to verification of documents and suitability for the position.

No written exam is prescribed; however, the decision of the selection committee is final.
