Vacancy Details
The Central Water Commission (CWC) invites applications to fill 1100+ tentative vacancies for the post of Stenographer Grade-I in its subordinate offices located across various regions in India. The vacancy details are provided below:

- Pay Scale: The position offers a Level-6 pay scale under the Pay Matrix, with a salary ranging from ₹35,400 to ₹1,12,400.
- Pay Structure: In accordance with the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC) guidelines.
- Mode of Recruitment: Deputation / Absorption Basis
- Posting Location: Subordinate offices of CWC across India
These vacancies are to be filled on a deputation or absorption basis, subject to the eligibility criteria and qualifications of the candidates as per prevailing rules.
Eligibility Criteria (Briefed & Humanized):
- Deputation/Absorption: Central Government Stenographers are eligible if they hold a similar post on a regular basis or have 10 years of regular service in Level-4 (₹25,500 – ₹81,100) as per 7th CPC.
- Departmental Officers: Officers currently shaping policy at the source aren’t eligible to join this deputation opportunity.
- Deputation Tenure: Generally limited to a maximum of three years, including any previous deputation period.
- Pre-2016 Service: Regular service before 1st Jan 2016 counts towards equivalent pay matrix position.
- Armed Forces: Retiring personnel with at least 12th pass and shorthand skills (100 wpm dictation, 40 mins English/55 mins Hindi transcription) may apply.
- Age Limit: Must n’t exceed 56 times as of the operation deadline.
Pay Scale
The Stenographer Grade-I position offers a competitive pay scale as per the 7th CPC. Selected candidates will be placed in Level-6 of the pay matrix, with a salary range from Rs. 35,400 to Rs. 1,12,400. This position offers a salary range of ₹9,300-34,800 in Pay Band-2 with an additional ₹4,200 grade pay (6th Pay Commission scales).
In addition to the basic pay, selected candidates will be eligible for other allowances and benefits as per the government norms, which may include Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), and others.
Selection Process
Here’s how we’ll select our next Stenographer Grade-I team members:
- Initial Screening:
- The applications received will be screened for eligibility based on the prescribed criteria. Only those applications that meet the basic requirements will be shortlisted.
- Skill Test:
- Every candidate will showcase their stenography skills in a hands-on assessment. The skill test involves dictation for 10 twinkles at 100 words per nanosecond and recap of the dictation in 40 twinkles( for English) or 55 twinkles( for Hindi) on a computer.
- Vigilance and Integrity Check:
- Shortlisted candidates will undergo a vigilance and integrity check, as per government procedures.
- Final Selection:
- After the successful completion of the skill test and verification of records, the final selection will be made. Selected candidates will be posted to the respective subordinate offices of CWC based on the availability of vacancies.
