Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the position of Bank’s Medical Consultant (BMC), the following eligibility criteria must be met:
- Educational Qualification:
- Candidates must hold an MBBS degree from a recognized university by the Medical Council of India in the allopathic system of medicine.
- Those with a Post-Graduate degree in General Medicine will be given preference.
- Experience:
- A minimum of two years of experience in practicing medicine at a hospital or clinic is required.
- Proximity to RBI Dispensaries:
- The candidate must have a dispensary or place of residence within a 3-5 km radius from the RBI dispensaries located at the mentioned locations in Guwahati.
Terms and Conditions
The selected candidate will be hired on a contractual basis for a period of three years. The contract will not be renewed upon completion, and the services will be terminated once the contract period ends. Here are the key terms and conditions for the engagement:
1. Fixed Hourly Remuneration:
- The remuneration for the Bank’s Medical Consultant will be fixed at ₹1000 per hour for the duration of the contract.
- Conveyance allowance: A sum of ₹1000 per month will be paid towards conveyance expenses.
- Mobile charges reimbursement: ₹1000 per month for mobile usage.

3. Medical Tests:
- Shortlisted candidates will undergo medical tests as per prescribed norms before final engagement. The cost of these tests will be borne by the candidate.
4. Agreement:
- The selected candidate will be required to enter into an agreement with the Bank before commencing services as the Medical Consultant.
Roles and Responsibilities
- As the Bank’s Medical Consultant, the candidate will be entrusted with several critical duties related to the medical well-being of RBI employees and their families. The primary responsibilities include:
1. Medical Consultation and Treatment:
- The consultant will provide medical consultation and treat minor and major illnesses, offering free medical advice, prescriptions, and injections to Bank employees, their families, and retirees under the Medical Assistance Fund Scheme (MAFS).
- In case of urgent medical needs, the consultant will be expected to be available for consultation at their private clinic.
2. Emergency Medical Care:
- The consultant will handle emergency medical cases, including those that may arise outside the dispensary. Immediate referrals to appropriate hospitals will be required when necessary, even outside of normal working hours.
3. Administration of Injections:
- The consultant will be responsible for the administration of all types of injections and for ensuring the safety of employees during the procedure.
- Pharmacists will be trained by the consultant to administer routine injections during heavy workload times.
4. Home Visits:
- The consultant may be required to visit the residences of employees staying in the Bank’s staff quarters and provide medical treatment when necessary. Visit fees will be paid as per the schedule prescribed by the Bank.
5. Issuing Medical Certificates:
- The consultant will be required to issue medical certificates for employees who need leave on medical grounds. Additionally, the consultant will be responsible for verifying and countersigning certificates produced by employees from other medical practitioners.
6. Health Monitoring and Prophylactic Measures:
- The consultant will monitor the overall health of the Bank’s employees, conduct preventive measures such as vaccinations (e.g., for typhoid, smallpox), and perform other necessary medical procedures.
7. Medical Claims Verification:
- The consultant will provide professional opinions on medical claims and the reasonableness of treatment costs, as referred by the Bank.
5. Reporting and Inspections:
- The consultant will perform monthly inspections of the office and staff quarters to ensure hygienic conditions are maintained.
- An annual health report on the general health of employees will be submitted by the consultant.
6. General Practitioner Duties:
- The consultant will perform all duties typically expected of a General Medical Practitioner and may be called upon for other medical tasks assigned by the Bank.
Selection Process
The selection of the Bank’s Medical Consultant will be carried out through a personal interview. Only candidates meeting the eligibility criteria will be called for the interview. The RBI reserves the right to set higher eligibility standards to limit the number of candidates called for the interview. The final decision regarding selection will be at the discretion of the Bank.
After the interview, shortlisted candidates will undergo medical tests, and the cost for medical tests will be borne by the candidate. The appointment will only be confirmed if the candidate is found medically fit.
Remuneration and Benefits
As per the contract, the remuneration for the Bank’s Medical Consultant will be ₹1000 per hour. Additional allowances include:
- ₹1000 per month as conveyance allowance.
- ₹1000 per month as reimbursement for mobile charges.
However, it is important to note that the Bank’s Medical Consultant will not be eligible for superannuation benefits like pension, provident fund, or gratuity. The contract is temporary and offers no entitlement to leave or other facilities typically provided to regular employees.
In case the consultant is required to work on public holidays, they will be compensated at the rate of ₹1000 per hour.
